Why do conservatives always claim that liberals believe in a nosy, intrusive government...?

Well when they're pressured into situations like these, social conservatives all of a sudden become libertarians. Personally, I've noticed the serious hypocrisy behind the conservative "personal freedom" motto. That's why I became a libertarian.
