Is it bad to let my piercing shrink from a 14g to a 16g?

My friend told me that my ears were pierced at 16 judging by the size so i went out and bought a couple pairs of 16g earrings. I can't return them so which methods will help my ears shrink back down as safely and as cleanly as possible? And also will I be able to go back and forth between the 14's and the 16's or will that eff up the tissue?
