Why do pro-"confederacy" reactionaries deny history?

Many people had many different reasons. Most people in the South did not want to leave the Union. They wanted states rights and the union wasn't going to allow it. If they could have had states right to choose, they would have stayed in the Union. Others it was about slavery, and others were solidly for secession. All kinds of reasons.
